  • Physical and anatomical aptitude, as well as a sense of rhythm and musical ability.

  • Good academic performance at primary or secondary school to cope with the dual demands of school and dance training.

  • If German is not your first language, you will need a good knowledge of German: At least DaZ 2 for children living in Saxony or language level A1.1 for year 5 or A1.2 for year 6. Lessons at secondary school and dance lessons are conducted in German. Pupils are supported in learning German through individual tutoring. We recommend further improving German language skills through self-organised intensive courses.

  • These requirements are assessed during an admissions process (aptitude test and entrance examination).

  • The language proficiency levels are based on Saxon and international standards and our previous experience. Here is a link for further guidance:

The application deadline for the aptitude test is 15 December 2025.

Admission to the orientation levels O1 and O2 (equivalent to school years 5 and 6) at Palucca University of Dance Dresden is principally only possible through an aptitude test.

Physical-anatomical aptitude and rhythmical-musical aptitude are examined as well as the scholastic achievements to date. Previous knowledge of dance is not a prerequisite for admission to the orientation level O1.

An invitation to an audition will be sent out after the aptitude test has been passed. Lateral entrants into already existing classes are auditioned, as a rule, during a trial week in which the dance background is also examined. After a successfully passed audition, the parents or legal guardians complete registration, pursuant to Sec. 5 (4) School Regulations for Secondary and Evening High Schools (SOOSA), within the deadline determined by the Secondary School.

Auditions

Place: Palucca University of Dance Dresden

  • 31 January and 1st February 2026 (not for lateral entrants) (By invitation after a passed aptitude test only.)

The aptitude test consists of an anatomical test and a dance test. In the anatomical test, the physical aptitude of the participants will be reviewed. The anatomical test is conducted and accompanied by our physiotherapists.

During the dance test, we look at the rhythmic-musical abilities. Here, the participant's movement imagination, musicality, dance presence, perceptiveness and coordination/motor skills play a particularly important role. Above all, the joy of movement should be evident. The dance aptitude test takes place as a group test under the guidance of a dance teacher from the university, who guides the children through the aptitude test. No previous knowledge is required to take part in the aptitude test!

There are no semester tuition for the orientation levels.
